In all areas in NSW where flooding does occur, there is a local flood plan, and the key roles of the Authorities who asssist the community in flood prevention, preparedness, response and recovery are listed in that plan.

There are three classifications of flooding:
  • Minor Flooding

Floods can also occur in rivers when the flow fastens the capacity of the river channel. Most floods take hours or even days to develop, giving people to prepare or evacuate. Other floods are quick and are with little warning, flash flooding is an example of this.
When it becomes likely that flooding may occur, the Bureau of Meteorology and the SES begin issuing warnings and advices.
These warnings are issued to radio and television stations, to broadcast to the community that will be affected.
