Lightning Information

Lightning is a discharge of electricity accompanied by thunder. Lightning normally happens when a thunderstorms is happening. It may also occur during a volcano or a dust storm. There are over 16 million lightning storms each year. Lightning is produced in thunderstorms when liquid and ice particles above the freezing level bang together and build large electrical fields in the clouds. Once these are big enough an enormous spark occurs between them.

Some dangerous places to be around lightning:
  • electricity transformers
  • metal attracts lightning
