Storm Recovery

What can I do after a storm ?

After a storm has passed, there are things that will need to be done. Here is a list of some of these:
  • Keep listening to your local radio station for information and advice.
  • Check your house for damage.
  • If you need assistance from the SES, call 132 500
  • For life-threatening emergencies, call 000
  • Stay well clear of creeks, drains, causeways, and other waterways.
  • Stay well clear of fallen trees, power lines and other damaged structures.
  • If you do not require assistance yourself, check on your neighbours if it is safe to do so.
  • Do not go sightseeing.
SES volunteers can make temporary repairs to storm damaged property, secure structures and clear access points to roads and properties.
You will need to arrange professional tradespersons to repair broken windows and damaged structures.
If you are a tenant : Information on reporting storm damage and your options if the property is uninhabitable or severly damaged are available on the Office of Fair Trading website : STORM DAMAGE INFORMATION FOR TENANTS.
In a Declared Natural Disaster, your local Council will clear away any debris that you stack neatly at the front of your property. You may need to clear away debris yourself or have a professional removal company clear it.
The SES reminds people to take care when clearing debris and securing properties.
